Richard has worked successfully with sole inventors, SMEs, universities, government laboratories and major multinationals. He particularly enjoys working with local clients, where he can work directly with inventors. His extensive experience in industry has given him the ability to fully appreciate the commercial aspects of patenting and to provide advice appropriate to the particular needs of individual clients according to their specific circumstances.

Background

He has worked as a patent attorney since 2003, including 5 years as principal at a prominent Australian patent firm. He specialises in chemical inventions and has worked on inventions in fields as diverse as organic synthesis, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, nanotechnology, polymer synthesis and processing, polymer composites, solar energy, carbon sequestration, graphene synthesis and sensor technology. He has drafted several hundred patent applications and successfully prosecuted many of these through to granted patents, both locally and in foreign jurisdictions. He also provides opinions on patentability and infringement, and strategic advice for management of patent portfolios.

Qualifications

Richard has a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Sydney and conducted post-doctoral research at Imperial College, London and at CSIRO Division of Applied Organic Chemistry. He has 20 years of experience in industrial R&D research and management. His industrial experience includes both small start-up companies and large multinationals. He has been a designated inventor on several patent applications.
